This traditional home got a fresh and fruity makeover for the Holidays with accents of colours and fresh fruits. Christy Ford, the home’s owner, gave the Washington Post a few tips on decorating for Christmas. I thought I’d share them with you as I found them very interesting.
Select a color scheme. Too much of a good thing is bad enough. Stick instead to a few selected colours for your entire festive decor and keep in mind your home’s decor as it will serve you as a backdrop and cannot be omitted.
Look to nature. Play outside! You might find great treasures such as branches, leaves, moss and rocks to decorate your home.
Go to the grocery store. Fruits are a great and inexpensive way to decorate for Christmas. Load up on seasonal fruits, such as clementines, kumquats, baby pears and pomegranates.
Pick up fresh greens and flowers. Dress your mantel and tabletops with boxwood, beaded eucalyptus, magnolia and dusty miller leaves. There are also white tulips, which mixed with the frostiness of the beaded eucalyptus and dusty miller give a very chic and festive arrangement.
