I close my eyes. I see myself at 5 or 6 years old, at my mom’s house, sitting at the dining room table, wearing a very large apron & blowing out eggs before painting them vibrant colours. I remember being patient (even though I was not a patient person at all) because these delicate eggs felt like works of art between my pudgy little fingers. I would let them dry on a baking rack before stuffing them gently into a little straw basket filled with lime green faux hay. Oh what fun that was! The eggs served no particular purpose other than being carried around for a few days until they ended inevitably, one after the other, on the floor broken in a thousand colourful pieces.
Fast forward 32 years, I have now transmitted to my little ones that same joy of decorating eggs, but what has really changed is the available inspirations and the techniques to make them all the more unique and fun.
Here are some of my favourite Easter Eggs DIYs, as well as some great recipes to make your own natural dyes.
Take those paintbrushes and sharpies out and have yourself some good old fun!
