Keeping busy during this period of confinement is not a slim task. I used to wish for more hours in a day to be able to accomplish everything I needed to do, to now wishing that days were only 10 hours long! So, I have resolved to learn new skills and hobbies and what better place than Etsy to cater to all things handmade.<\/p>\n

I’ve corralled here some ideas & material for your next DIY projects.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Watercolour painting<\/h3>\n

I used to LOVE painting with watercolours! I would carry my little kit around with me everywhere and put down on paper all of my inspirations. Then, well, life happened. But it is a hobby I have never forgotten. What better moment than a quarantine at home to rekindle that flame. And this\u00a0watercolour kit<\/a>, brush set<\/a> & ceramic painters palette<\/a> are\u00a0just the elements I need to get started.<\/p>\n

Weaving<\/h3>\n

Alright, so as much as I know my way around watercolour paints, I am clueless with weaving. Fascinated by it, but clueless. It all seems so mysterious to me. This\u00a0weaving kit<\/a> promises to remedy the unknown aspect of weaving by providing you with all the tools and guidance one needs to create their first woven piece of textile art.<\/p>\n

Embroidery<\/h3>\n

Embroidery is seeing a HUGE comeback! Did you know that while embroidery is practiced across the world, its origin stems from China and the Near East? Early embroidery can actually be traced back to 30,000 BCE. Archeological finds from this time period reveal fossilized remains of heavily hand-stitched and decorated clothing. I have tried unsuccessfully to get my hands on some\u00a0 Sara Fitz needlepoint<\/a> patterns, but they are all sold out with more demand awaiting their return. This trend is nuts right now! I’ve found on Etsy some\u00a0embroidery pattern<\/a> & embroidery kit<\/a> that are available and this\u00a0alligator DIY embroidery kit<\/a> is super cute too.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Calligraphy<\/h3>\n

Speaking of ancient arts, calligraphy\u00a0is one of them. There is something so zen about doing it proficiently and so infuriating about learning to do it well. But I figure since we have some time, why not try our hand at calligraphy with these calligraphy practice sheets<\/a> &\u00a0sketch markers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I am making an exception from my Etsy edit here to include an outsider. This\u00a0candle DIY kit<\/a> is the best\u00a0I have tried! It smells absolutely divine and the wax is high quality and easy to work with. The amber jars provided add a little vintage apothecary flair to the experience and the price is more than fair as there is a lot of product in the box to make multiple candles.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Last but not least, needle punching. I include it in a separate category from embroidery as the purist would say it is a completely different hobby. I, for one, wouldn’t mind being good at either. There is something so satisfying in watching someone needle punch. I’ve found this needle punch kit<\/a> which comes with all the paraphanelia you will need to start your own project. I ordered the small one for myself. I can’t wait to receive it.<\/p>\n
