There is still snow outside my door, not for much longer I hope. I am anxious to see the leaves break their wintery shells under the warm Spring rays. Along with the change of seasons we see a whole new colour palette appear: blades of green grass, purple and pink magnolia blooms, white and blush apple tree flowers, and of course yellow daffodils & dandelions.
In small doses this colour is both cheerful and cheeky, yellow never takes itself too seriously but yet has the power to transform a room from casual to sophisticated in a bold swoosh of colour. Yellow is the color of flowers, lemons, and sunshine, offering fresh appeal in each of its many variations. For a fresh and current look try bright {or even neon} shades of yellow and pair them with: mint green, navy, blush or khaki. Or for a calmer combination with beige, greige or white. Common design knowledge says to inject at least three items of an accent colour for balance. I agree most of the time, but in the case of yellow, and as it is so bright, sometimes just a well chosen accessory or a sofa throw will do the trick.
However you choose to use the colour in your home, in timid accents or large strokes, yellow promises to bring in your home a touch of Spring.
