Work! More Than Just an Occupation, it’s a Lifestyle

Have you ever taken a minute to consider the importance that work occupied in your life? How, with all the tech now available at our fingertips, we can work anytime from everywhere. As a small business owner, I took some time this summer and made a survey of my activities, my multiple streams of income business model, but also how I worked and where I did it from.

Take this blogpost for example. I am currently sitting at my dining room table, with my son in the background playing, my daughter in the shower and a pile of fresh laundry to fold on the chair beside me. Is it the most efficient way to work? Probably not, but today, that’s the best it’s going to be. Maybe tomorrow, or next week, I can actually make it into the office.

This is, amongst many other, one of the reasons why I am SO excited to attend Maison & Objet, as an ambassador, in 2 weeks from now. Every year, the expo centers around a large overarching theme and this time, that theme is Work!

“Tying in with its new WORK! theme, Maison & Objet has put together a specific itinerary to help visitors fully explore this laboratory for expressing today’s new way of working.

Driven by new information technologies and a changing job market, work has gradually freed itself from the shackles of the traditional office setting. More nomadic, more informal and more enjoyable than ever before, today’s offices have been truly metamorphosed becoming veritable living spaces where people do so much more than just work: they interact, recharge their batteries, grab a bite to eat, have fun… feel “at home”. – M&O

I am looking forward to visiting hundreds of booths from manufacturers from all over Europe, refuelling on trends to come, those that are dwindling away, listening to conferences from industry peers, but also attending some cool events from the concomitant Paris Design Week as well as rubbing elbows with some amazing designers such as this year laureate for “designer of the Year”, Laura Gonzalez.

Granted these activities all sound really glamorous, but hey… it’s all in a day’s work. ;)

I am an ambassador of Maison & Objet for Québec. As such, I receive benefits. This blogpost is of my own creation.
